This will ensure that your store jewelry valuables are not only secure but also easily accessible when needed.
Size and Storage Space
When choosing a wall safe, size is a crucial factor to consider. Wall safes vary in size from small models suitable for jewelry or handguns, to larger models suitable for fireproof documents and cash, up to lockers that can accommodate full-sized rifles. These safes are designed to fit between 16” and center studs, and they come with various lock options, including keypad lock, for added security. For a custom safe option that will fit between the studs, you can call 800-207-2259 and they will provide a quote.
Remember that the size of the safe you choose will determine the storage capacity it can offer for your valuables, so it’s crucial to select a safe that can accommodate all your items.
If you have an odd-sized wall width or require additional storage security, a wall safe with a depth of 20 inches is recommended. This will provide you with ample storage space, ensuring that your valuables are well-protected and organized within the safe. Having the right size safe is the first step towards ensuring the security of your belongings.
Choosing the right installation location for your wall safe is just as important as selecting the right size. The optimal location for installing a wall safe is one that is both discreet and easily accessible for you, such as a closet or hallway. When selecting an installation site, accessibility is critical as it facilitates easy access to the safe when necessary. At the same time, discretion is essential in order to maintain the safe’s concealment from potential thieves.
When installing a wall safe, it is essential to ensure that the safe is firmly affixed to wall studs, and that the safe is adequately concealed. Collaborating with a reliable local contractor upon making your acquisition guarantees that your wall safe, which may have an electronic keypad powered by AA batteries, is properly installed between the studs in your home’s walls. This ensures that your safe is not only secure, but also hidden from prying eyes.
Wall safes come with various security features, such as lock types and burglary ratings, which contribute to the overall security of the safe. Some of the most common lock options include digital keypads, biometric fingerprint scanners, and mechanical locks. It’s essential to evaluate the security features of different wall safes to find the best option for your needs.
The burglary rating of a wall safe indicates the level of resistance it offers against forced entry. For example, the Stealth WSHD1414 and AMSEC WS1214 wall safes have not been rated for burglary resistance. When choosing a safe, consider the security features that are most important to you and select a safe that offers the best protection for your valuables.
When a Wall Safe is The Best Safe Type
Wall safes are ideal for those who want a discrete and easily hidden safe that can be installed within their home’s walls. The primary advantage of a wall safe is that it is concealed in the wall behind a picture or mirror. This makes it more difficult for potential thieves to locate the safe, adding an extra layer of security to your valuables.
However, it’s important to remember that given enough time, a burglar may be capable of cutting or prying the safe out of the wall. Therefore, a concealable wall safe can offer an additional layer of security, as it must be located before it can be accessed. By choosing a wall safe, you can ensure that your valuables are protected in a discreet and secure manner.
Fire Resistance and Waterproofing
Protecting your valuables from theft is only part of the equation when it comes to choosing the right wall safe. Fire resistance and waterproofing are also important factors to consider, as they can protect your valuables from damage in case of a fire or flood.
In this section, we’ll discuss fire-resistant and waterproof safes and how they can offer an additional layer of protection for your belongings.
Fire Resistant Safes
Fire-resistant wall safes are designed to safeguard valuables from fire damage. Constructed of steel and featuring a fire-resistant lining, these safes provide protection from heat and smoke. A fire resistant safe, such as the AMSEC WFS149E5LP Fireproof Wall Safe, the Biometric Fingerprint Wall Safes from Dean Safe, and the SentrySafe SFW123GDC Fireproof Waterproof Safe with Digital Keypad, is highly recommended for optimal security.
The term “fireproof” is not entirely accurate as no safe can endure the most intense fires indefinitely. The American Security fire-resistant wall safe, for example, is rated to withstand a fire of up to 1 hour while keeping the internal temperature below 350 degrees. By choosing a fire-resistant wall safe, you add an extra layer of protection for your valuables in case of a fire.
Waterproof wall safes are not as common as other types of wall safes, but they can offer an additional layer of protection for items that have to be safeguarded from water damage. Some reliable waterproof wall safes include the SentrySafe SFW123GDC Fireproof Waterproof Safe with Digital Keypad and the Paragon Lock & Safe 7725 Superior Wall Safe.
If you’re concerned about protecting your items from potential water damage but can’t find a waterproof wall safe, there are alternative methods to consider. You can safeguard your items from water damage by storing them in zip lock bags or fire- and water-resistant bags inside the safe. This way, you can ensure your valuables are protected from both fire and water damage, providing you with peace of mind.
Lock Options for Wall Safes
One of the most important aspects to consider when choosing a wall safe is the type of lock it comes with. There are various lock options available for wall safes, including digital keypads, biometric fingerprint scanners, and mechanical locks. Each lock type has its own advantages and disadvantages, so it’s important to choose the one that best suits your needs and preferences.
For example, digital keypads are convenient and easy to use, but they can be vulnerable.
Digital keypads offer a modern and convenient way to secure your wall safe. They are often easy to use and allow for quick access to your valuables. However, digital keypads may require battery replacements or have a risk of electronic failure. Some highly recommended digital keypad wall safes include the Yale YRD256 Assure Lock SL and the Paragon Digital Wall Safe.
While digital keypads may be more convenient than other lock types, it’s important to consider the potential drawbacks. The batteries should be changed annually to ensure the lock remains functional. Additionally, digital locks may be vulnerable to hacking, so it’s important to weigh the convenience against the potential security risks.
Biometric Fingerprint Scanners
Biometric fingerprint scanners provide quick and secure access to your wall safe using your unique fingerprint. Brands like Barska provide traditional wall safe designs with three variations: standard right hand opening, left hand opening, and white wall safe. These safes can accommodate up to 120 fingerprints, ensuring that only authorized individuals have access to the safe.
However, it’s important to remember that biometric technology is still relatively new and may not be 100% reliable. If you’re considering a biometric fingerprint scanner for your wall safe, make sure to research the specific model and its reliability before making a decision.
Mechanical locks, like the Simplex lock from V-Line Security Products, offer a reliable and long-lasting lock option with no need for batteries or electronic components. Some highly recommended mechanical locks for wall safes include the Sargent and Greenleaf mechanical locks and the NL UR-2020 Electronic Lock by NL.
Mechanical locks are renowned for their dependability and durability because they do not require batteries or electronic components. However, they can be challenging to install and necessitate regular upkeep. Additionally, they may be pricier than digital locks. It’s essential to consider the pros and cons of each lock type before making a decision.
Installing and Mounting Your Wall Safe
Proper installation and mounting of your wall safe are crucial for ensuring its security and functionality. In this section, we’ll discuss the tools and materials needed for installation.
The importance of predrilled holes and mounting hardware cannot be overstated. It is essential to ensure that the safe is securely mounted to wall studs. This will help to prevent it from being easily accessible.
Tools and Materials
Before you begin installing your wall safe, it’s important to gather the necessary tools and materials. For the installation of a wall safe, a tape measure, hammer, level, drywall saw, and drill/driver are necessary. A tape measure is utilized to measure the dimensions of the wall safe and the wall where it is to be installed. A hammer is utilized to drive nails into the wall to ensure the wall’s stability. A level is used to guarantee that the wall safe is installed in a level position. A drywall saw is utilized to cut a hole in the wall for the installation of a wall safe. And a drill/driver is utilized to create holes in the wall for the installation of a wall safe.
It’s also essential to ensure that the wall safe is firmly affixed to the wall studs and adequately concealed. Enlisting the services of a professional contractor or general contractor to assess the wall and identify the optimal location for the wall safe is highly recommended.
Predrilled Holes and Mounting Hardware
Predrilled holes and mounting hardware are essential for affixing a wall safe to a wall. The predrilled holes are normally located in the base or back of the safe, and the mounting hardware typically consists of steel mounting screws. Steel mounting screws are inserted into the four pre-drilled mounting holes found in the base or back of the safe, which are the most common predrilled holes and mounting hardware used for wall safes.
Ensuring your wall safe has predrilled holes and comes with mounting hardware makes the installation process much easier. Remember to follow the manufacturer’s instructions and consult a professional contractor if necessary to ensure a secure and proper installation.
Securing the Safe to Wall Studs
Once your wall safe is installed and mounted, it’s crucial to secure it to the wall studs using the provided hardware. This will prevent the safe from being easily removed by burglars. A stud finder is the most effective tool to locate the wall studs. Once the wall studs have been identified, they should be marked with a pencil or marker. The most effective way to create holes in the wall studs is to use a drill.
Following the manufacturer’s instructions and consulting a certified contractor or general contractor is highly recommended to ensure the wall safe is properly affixed to the wall studs. This will guarantee that your safe is not only secure but also hidden from prying eyes.
Customizing and Concealing Your Wall Safe
Once your wall safes secure installation is complete behind a steel door, you may want to consider customizing and concealing it to enhance its security and make it more convenient for you to access your valuables.
In this section, we’ll discuss various ways to hide your wall safe and how adding interior lighting and custom shelving can improve its functionality by utilizing dead space.
Hiding Your Wall Safe
Hiding your wall safe is an effective way to keep it out of sight from potential burglars. Some of the most effective methods for concealing a wall safe include placing it in a second fridge, hiding it in a vent, disguising it underfoot, concealing it under the mattress, installing it in a wall, disguising it in a book, positioning it inside stair steps, or disguising it under the stairs.
A wall safe can also be concealed by affixing it behind a picture frame, mirror, or other decorative item. By choosing one of these methods to hide your wall safe, you can ensure that it remains out of sight and secure from potential thieves. Remember that the more concealed your safe is, the less likely it is to be discovered and tampered with.
Interior Lighting and Customization
In addition to concealing your wall safe, you may want to consider customizing its interior for improved functionality. Adding interior lighting, such as the bright LED convenience lights in the Haven safe, can make it easier to locate items within the safe. Custom shelving and adjustable shelves are also useful for organizing your valuables and making the most of the storage space available.
By customizing the interior of your wall safe, you can ensure that your valuables are not only secure but also easily accessible when needed. This will enhance the overall convenience and functionality of your wall safe, making it an even better investment for your home security needs.

love it though
Great customer service, communication. Ms. Hope was excellent through the whole process.
The Haven 42"x59" safe is an incredibly amazing and beautiful unit. It arrive safely, very safely and well protected packaging and protected on a steel pallet. Because of its almost 800# weight, I arranged for a local locksmith to provide the moving of it into my walk-out lower level that is level with the back yard grading. I was very curious how the safe can be placed flat against a back wall when the electrical outlet requires access in order to be plugged into a nearby outlet. None of this is mentioned in the on-line user guide or the hard copy guide that was provided within the included paperwork within the safe. It is also important to share with you that the extension cord with the special connector that fits into the safe mounted connector is provided within the safe when it is delivered. Note that if the safe is place fully back and flat against the wall, that you will NOT be able to plug in the electrical extension cord which is mounted
on the top right corner (viewed from the inside). The safe is pre-wired with a two outlet surface mounted unit to which the bright LED convenience lights are connected, are triggered by a motion detector and helpful to easily locate the specific items within this safe which provides ample storage space for important document, jewelry, and naturally your ammo, long guns and pistols. The Haven is certified for compliance with CA DOJ (very rugged specifications) has 75 min fire rating, is waterproof in up to 2 ft of water for 7 days, has (10) 1-1/2" locking bolts and many more features. I did a lot of research before deciding on this specific unit. I did not need the gun capacity of 48, but the extra space fully accommodates the many other valuables that I will store in it. The inside of the door also has a complete set of storage pockets for pistols, magazines or accessories. I highly recommend the Sports Afield Haven. Also worthy of mention is the customer service of USA Safe and Vault. Thank you for your very courteous support.
We are very happy with the safe so far. It arrived in perfect condition. Hopefully it will never be put to the test, but if it is, it really is a solid safe. The burglars would have their work cut out for them.
Great quality. Prompt delivery. Everything I hoped it would be.
Very heavy, but easy to program. Live the adjustable shelves and door organizer. Hopefully won’t need the warranty but nice to have!
This safe is everything i hoped it would be. I obviously have tested the fire rating (i hope i don't have to) but every other part of this safe is what i would expect from a much more expensive safe. I owned Sentry 24 gun safe before and bought this for the bigger size but didn't want to break the bank. The only reason i didn't not give it 5 stars was there two small cosmetic issues from shipping. Both were very small but 5 stars means perfect i think so it lost one. otherwise its a great buy.
A very tough compact safe very ideal for hand guns. The steel body frame is very solid and thick, couldn't be more happier with this safe. It's perfect for our room.
We all love the safe, perfect for our guns and looks real classy. I will buy another one of these soon!
I just wanted to say how happy I am with this safe, it's a bit expensive but definitely worth the money. If you need a very tough safe for the most important things, then this safe will not disappoint you.
You gotta love the rugged look on this safe. It's perfect for our guns!
I like this safe, kind of a head turner design. The security features are all top of the line too. I hope I had gotten this sooner.
Awesome gun safe! It's got almost all the security features anyone could hope for in a gun safe. I am very happy with it!
